Rent has been defined in Article 3(37) of the Basic Democracies Order in the follo­wing words:

"3. (37) 'rent' means whatever is by law payable in money or kind by a tenant or lessee to the Government on account of the occupation or use of any land in East Pakistan held by the tenant or les­see."
